Website Design

Website design is where I originally started my design career. I have had over 10 years experience designing websites, and I make each one I create from scratch so it will be 100% unique and specifically designed for your business.

Included in the price of your website design is:

• A full unique website design and construction for your business
• Basic graphic/image work (such as a top banner etc)
• A feature added to your site for optimum search engine results
• One contact form set up for visitors to use
• Standard javascript features like the menu on this website
• Full communication while your website is being created
• Uploading of your website to the internet

The included image work is for general graphic and image editing for things such as basic banners and menus, etc. If you would like to have a more complicated graphic designed for your site, please let me know as it may affect the price. Depending on how time-consuming the job is, I may be able to include it in the price below, but for larger, more complex graphics I will have to add an extra charge due to the time they take to do. I will never charge you extra without asking you first.

The prices below don't include the use of Flash or eCommerce for shopping sites. If you would like these features, please contact me and we can work out a deal depending on your requirements.

For others to be able to view your website on the internet, you will need to have it hosted and also have a domain name. If you already have these set up, that's great! If not - no problem! I can do that too. Pricing for this is also listed below.

Website Hosting and Domain Prices

Once your website is designed, it will need to be hosted and you also need a domain name. If you would like me to organise this for you, that's no problem - just let me know and I'll help you sort it out! If you are looking for a reliable web host, I highly recommend Westnet, who I have dealt with my entire career, however if you would like me to set up an account with someone else, just contact me with the relevant information and I can do that for you too.

If you have already set up your own hosting and domain name, that's great! You don't have to worry about these prices! However if you would like me to set it all up, you will need to choose one option from each of the following three sections.

Please note that the prices in section 2 & 3 have nothing to do with me, and is just to give you an idea of what costs to expect. They may vary, depending on which domain/hosting company you choose.

• Section One
Set Up - (paid to Janelle Ashmore)

One Time Setup fee..............................................
$50

• Section Two
Hosting - (paid to hosting company)

I have found that most websites can be hosted using a standard hosting account offered by most hosting companies. Prices of these types of hosting accounts can vary, but are generally around the $160 p/year to $250 p/year mark, and also normally have an option so it can be paid monthly instead if you prefer.

• Section Three
Domain Name - (paid to domain company)

Here is a rough price guide the most common domain names for Australian websites, although there are also plenty of other types to choose from. If you would like more information on different types of domains, or you are a company not from Australia please feel free to email me for pricing.

Australian Domain Name (.com.au)...............
$88 for 2 years
Reqirements: You must be a registered Australian business.

.

International Domain Name (.com)..............
$30 for 1 year
Reqirements: Anyone can register. There are no restrictions.

.

Aust. Non-Profit Domain Name (.org.au)......
$35 for 2 years
Reqirements: You must be an Australian charity or not-for-profit organisation.

My tips for a successful website

Don't have too many pages, or too much information.
Typically, between 4-7 pages suit most businesses.
A lot of people find websites through search engines, and if they come across your site and have to read through pages of information or look through a big menu of pages to try and find what they are looking for, a lot of them will just not bother, and just go back and click on another link to a different business who also appears in the search result. The same goes for having a lot of information on your site. If you have too much information, people won't bother reading it all, so you get the same effect.
If your website looks professional, and is basic and to the point, you will get the most out of it.

If you are an Australian Business, make your domain "yourbusinessname.com.au"
For a start, if customers see your website address promoted somewhere, they are more likely to remember it if it is the same name as your business. If they have to remember your business name as well as a different domain name they are more likely to forget one or even both, so you can actually lose a potential customer this way!

Seach engines also use domain names for rankings when people do a search. For example, google has a feature where people can specifically search for pages from Australia. If your domain ends in ".com.au" you will be ranked higher than if your domain is just ".com". Australian domain names are slightly more expensive, but in my opinion they are definately worth it!

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you need to do before we start?
Firstly, I will need to know if you already have hosting and your domain set up. If you do, I will need the login details so I can set up your website. If you don't already have these organised, just let me know and I can set them up for you.

If you already have an idea of what you want your website to look like, let me know, and I will attempt to make your site as close as you want to your idea. If you have found someone else's website and you like that style, it is a good idea to let me know the address of that site. I won't make yours exactly like theirs, but seeing an example of what you like is the best way for me to understand what you're after.

If you have no idea what you want, that's fine too! Just describe what sort of look you're after, and maybe send through a business card or logo if you have one so I can see what colours to go with and we'll see what we can come up with!

I will also need any information, logos and pictures you want included on the site. I think it's easier if you type any information you would like included yourself and email it to me with any other files I need, but if that's not possible, you can just send the information to me through the mail and I can type it out myself for no extra charge (as long as it's not an excessive amount of typing or scanning - a few pages or a few items is fine). If there's a lot of typing to do that's no problem, but it may attract an extra cost, charged at an hourly rate.

What is the process and how long will it take?
If you need me to set up your domain and hosting account, I like to allow a week for the hosting company to process this and complete the set-up. If I organise this first, I can work on the design as it is being set up so it won't make the process any longer.

Once that is being organised, the first thing I do is design the site. I work with you on this if you have an idea of what you want your website to look like or I can just design it myself the way I think suits your business if that's what you would prefer. I will do up a one page "dummy site" and send it to you, and we will work on the design until you are completely happy with it.

When you are happy with the design and approve it (if you want changes to the design made after you have approved it, that will cost extra, and will be charged at an hourly rate), I will work at building your website, which means creating the extra pages, inserting all the information and pictures and generally creating your website.

Once all this is done, I will send you a final proof for you to check through and make sure you don't want any last minute changes made to the content of your website, and once it's all good to go I will email you a final invoice/statement for any amount left owing (if there is anything outstanding) and once that has been paid I will upload your completed website to the internet.

Depending on the size of your website, many can easily be up and running within a few days to a week!

I need my existing website redesigned. Can you do this?
Sure! I can recreate it using the information on the existing website of you like, or recreate it from scratch if you would prefer (recreating your site from scratch can sometimes be cheaper if you want layout changes done). For either of these options it will be the same cost as setting up a new website. If you would like the site redesigned slightly using the existing design and information, I work on an hourly rate of $50p/h.

Why do I need hosting and a domain?
You need these so people can see your site on the internet. Imagine the internet is a big computer which everyone can access. Unless your website is on this "οnternet computer" it's pointless because people can't access it. Once you have your website hosted, people can now access it, but you still need to be able to tell people where they can see it, which is what you need a domain name for. It directs people to your website. In summary, you need all 3 parts to have a working website - design, hosting and domain.

How do I order?
To order, just send me an email with what you would like. Please be sure to include how many pages you want, what you want on each of the pages (eg. Homepage, Services, Pricing, Contact), if you need me to organise the hosting and domain (and if so, which option you choose from the sections above) and if you have any other special requests. If you could also give me an idea of what sort of look you are after (either through description or example - see above), that would be great!

How do I pay you?

I accept direct deposit, cash (if you live locally), paypal, VISA or mastercard. I will send you an invoice/statement once the website is completed. A deposit will be needed to commence the job and will depend on the size of the project. The deposit is normally worked out on a rate of about 50% of the estimated completion cost. Once the website is completed I will send you an invoice/statement for any amount left owing and once that has been paid I will upload your website to the internet.

For cancellations after the project has started, the deposit will not be refunded, and if it is relevant, an additional amount will be charged at an hourly rate for hours already worked on the website (the deposit will be deducted from this final cost).

All payments for domains and hosting that I organise will be set up to be paid straight to the hosting company, and need to be paid upfront. You will receive invoices from them as payments are due and receipts as they are paid. Once set up, these accounts have nothing to do with me anymore, although if you ever have any questions, I am always here to help.

I hope this answers any questions you may have, but if it doesn't, please don't hesitate to contact me!
